BIO

I am a visual artist currently based in New York, since 2001.  I moved here after spending the early part of my career in California where I studied at the San Francisco Art Institute majoring in painting and drawing.  Under the instruction and guidance of some of the leading figures in Bay Area Art at the time including Robert Colescott, Julius Hatofsky, and Richard Berger my worked developed its unique expressionist style.  Later, I added sculpture which has since become a significant part of my practice,   Important exhibitions while in San Francisco include Yerba Buena Center Bay Area Now;  SFMOMA Recent Acquisitions, Eureka Fellowship at the SJ Museum of Art and the San Diego Contemporary Art Museum; Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, Ma;  Drawing Center “Summer Selection”,  NY, NY.  I also participated in residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts and began work on a public project, the Third Street Light Rail before moving to New York.  Since arriving to New York I have exhibited work at the Studio Museum in Harlem,  the Kingston Sculpture Biennial, Kingston, NY;  Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center, Buffalo, NY; the Spartanburg Art Museum, Spartanburg, SC and PAAM, Provincetown, MA. Additionally, I have done residencies at Macdowell, VCCA,  LMCC Swing Space and the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop.
